Got Game is proud to be supporting Alzheimer's Reseach UK (ARUK), a scientific research charity focused on preventions, treatments and ultimately finding a cure for dementia.
Tom's grandpa was a sufferer for many years until he passed away this Spring, so it's a poignant issue for the company. He has decided to donate a percentage of takings from popular menu items, as well as committing to one large annual fund raising effort. The first is set for August 2014, a 1,220 mile bike ride from London to Idanha a Nova in Portugal.
Dementia is a rising global concern, warranting for the first time a G8 summit soon to be hosted by the UK, as per Jeremy Hunt's article in the Huffington Post today - http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/jeremy-hunt/jeremy-hunt-dementia-taking-fight-worldwide_b_3778769.html?utm_hp_ref=uk.
"As well as the huge personal cost, dementia costs the UK economy £23 billion a year, more than cancer and heart disease combined. Despite these figures, dementia research is desperately underfunded"(http://www.alzheimersresearchuk.org/dementia-statistics/).
It is clearly a worthwhile cause that needs immediate wider attention, and we look forward to helping with combatting this deblitating, merciless disease.
We'll finish with one of the few positives that could be said of losing your memory:
"Blessed are the forgetful, for they get the better even of their blunders." F. Nietzsche
Here's to getting the better of dementia!
